Kevin Brady Trio featuring Bill Carrothers

One of the most interesting & unique jazz trios to have emerged in the last ten years is the International collaboration between Irish jazz musician Kevin Brady, U.S. pianist/composer Bill Carrothers & bassist Dave Redmond.

Brady has many years of experience playing with some of the World’s leading exponents of jazz & improvised music. He has performed and recorded with Internationally renowned musicians such as: Larry Coryell (guitar) Lage Lund (Guitar) Peter Bernstein (Guitar) Seamus Blake (Sax) Norma Winstone (Vocals) Brian Charette (Hammond Organ) Ronnie Cuber (Saxophone) Perico Sambeat (Sax} Bobby Watson (Sax.) Randy Ingram (Piano) Ian Shaw (Vocals). He has also supported and performed on double-bill concerts with acts such as; Kurt Elling, Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, Andrew Hill, Swedish piano trio EST & Soul legend Gil-Scott Heron.

Bill Carrothers is quite exceptional in this setting, having recorded with many acclaimed trios. Performing & Recording with luminaries such as Gary Peacock, Billy Higgins, Dave Douglas, Curtis Fuller. He recently performed a sell – out residency at the prestigious jazz club – The Village Vanguard. More recently he has been nominated for a French  Gramophone Award for his latest solo album release entitled ‘ Excelsior ‘ a collection of improvised piano pieces.

Dave Redmond is one of the most in demand Bassists in Ireland, having performed with visiting artists such as Bob Dorough, Keith Copeland, Dave Leibman, Jason Rigby, Bobby Wellins, Guy Barker, Ian Shaw, Jacqui Dankworth, Scott Hamilton, and Jim Mullen. He has performed at numerous festivals and clubs throughout the World such as Ronnie Scotts and Pizza Express (London).

Brady formed the trio in 2006 with the clear aim of creating and producing new contemporary jazz and the impact of this was immediate. Their performances have been critically acclaimed for their dynamism and musicality. Since then, Brady, Carrothers & Redmond have toured regularly and consolidated their worldwide reputation as a compelling live act. The trio have travelled widely and won the appreciation of discerning jazz audiences as far afield as the USA, Europe, UK, China and the Azores. There performances were captured on their debut CD release entitled Common Ground in 2007,after many lauded performances they released their second album entitled Zeitgeist with Fresh Sounds New Talent Record label in 2009. The album attracted universally enthusiastic reviews and became instantly popular with jazz radio broadcasters.

In 2016 the group released their latest studio album entitled ‘Ensam’, the record features original compositions by Brady and remarkable reworkings and performances of standards such as The Night we called it a Day & But not for me. The title track is a Swedish word meaning ‘Alone’, but this is not a ballad focused meeting, every song was designed to feature the musicians in various capacities, while trying to maintain a common theme throughout..

In 2021, Kevin will release his latest studio album entitled PLAN B with Ubuntu Music featuring U.S. Saxophonist Seamus Blake & will tour extensively & safely in 2022 with music that embraces creativity and contributes to the evolution of stunning, surprising contemporary jazz music.
